STEP: Small Theater Enthusiasts of Pasadena.
|
This is for people who enjoy going to smaller theaters - rather than the larger venues where most seats are so far from the stage that you have to imagine the actors' expressions! We'll focus on theaters within easy reach of Pasadena (such as Boston Court, Glendale Centre Theatre, Sierra Madre Playhouse) but will also go to other venues in the LA area (such as the Geffen Playhouse, Mark Taper Forum and the many excellent but tiny venues in and around Hollywood). Everyone will buy their tickets separately online, although hopefully the entire group will meet before the play to have lunch or dinner together. But no problem if you just want to meet up for the play itself sometimes - that's fine too!

The Play: Firemen in a world of the near future don't put out fires. They start them. They burn books. Reading is banned in the interest of maintaining a becalmed, dumbed-down society. People are spoon-fed contrived TV 'reality' shows in which viewers participate in the action. But the human intellect and instinct for freedom can't be completely denied and a rebellious few will read books regardless of the consequences. Read more

What's New?
-
"Thank you, Claire, for stepping into the fray. Looking forward to checking out some smaller venues."
-
"I'm looking to support little theatre, and I like the idea that a group of us will be going at the same time to help fill up the theatre. I enjoy film as well, but there is nothing like the immediacy and wonder of the "live" experience of theatre."
-
"I'm looking forward to attending plays with this group!"
-
"Meeting for lunch before a play sounds interesting, but meeting for a late meal afterwards sounds like it would be a lot more fun. I look forward to lively discussions of plays, as I don't usually have too many people to discuss the plays with. "
-
"Hello, I look forward to seeing and supporting small theaters. I've done some costume design work for a Noise Within in Glendale and my husband is a photographer. "
-
"Hmmm... almost everybody in this group probably knows me already. I live in Oxford now, but I still occasionally show up in Pasadena so while I am no longer a "regular," I hope that some of the theatre trips occur when I'm in town."
